Boss XS-1 Poly Shifter — Polyphonic Pitch Shifting with Class-Leading Tracking

The Boss XS-1 Poly Shifter is a compact polyphonic pitch-shifting pedal built around new BOSS algorithms. It instantly retunes a guitar, bass, or other instrument across ±7 semitones or ±3 octaves while preserving attack and tonal character. The Adaptive Focus AD/DA method keeps complex chords and sustained lead lines clean and artifact-free. This model is the right choice for guitarists and bassists who need a virtual capo, drop-tuning tool, and octave generator in one stompbox.

What Sets the XS-1 Apart in the Polyphonic Pitch Shifter Category

Powered by the Adaptive Focus method with a 32-bit DA converter and 48 kHz sampling rate, the shifted signal stays musical across all pickup positions and pedal setups. The CTL/EXP jack accepts an expression pedal for linear pitch bending or up to two external footswitches for instant recall of alternate tuning presets with their own Balance settings.

Pitch Range and Tracking Performance

Polyphonic tracking holds together through full chord voicings, and ultra-low latency keeps the pedal transparent in front of an amp.

• Pitch Range: ±7 semitones or ±3 octaves — covers drop tunings, virtual capo positions, and octave jumps
• Detune Range: ±20 cents for rich doubling and chorus-style textures when blended
• Conversion Quality: 32-bit DA at 48 kHz sampling rate preserves transient detail and harmonic content

Controls, I/O, and Footswitch Integration

Controls stay intentionally simple so players can dial in sounds quickly during a set. Buffered bypass keeps the signal chain transparent.

• Controls: Shift knob, Mode Selector, Balance, Detune — plus Shift Direction and Pedal Mode switches for toggle or momentary operation
• Inputs: 6.3 mm jack plus Expression Pedal / CTL/EXP TRS jack
• Outputs: 6.3 mm jack with buffered bypass signal path

Power Supply, Build, and Compatible Accessories

The pedal runs on a single 9V alkaline battery for grab-and-go sessions or an optional PSA-series AC adaptor for permanent pedalboard installation.

• Power: 9V battery (included) or PSA-series AC adaptor, 120 mA current draw, ~3 h battery life
• Dimensions: 73 × 129 × 59 mm — standard BOSS compact footprint
